Singapore has a lot to offer when it comes to adventure and attractions. One of the best places that I consider having a great and memorable adventure is on Sentosa Island -- my favorite playground and my home to an endless adventure. An island not limited to theme parks alone but also for white sand beaches, hotels, spa retreats, dinings, golf courses and a lot more.

One of the most visited places in Singapore which I personally liked most is the Sentosa Island. Singapore's fourth largest island that lies far from the southern coast of the main island of Singapore with an area close to 5km squared or 1.9 sq. miles. The word "Sentosa" was derived from Sanskrit term Santosha that means "contentment, satisfaction" and in Malay translation, it is "peace and tranquility". It was formerly known as "Pulau Blakang Mati" bearing a Malay meaning "Island of Death from Behind". Means of transportation is via a short causeway or cable car starting off at Mount Faber and will pass through Harbour Front before it heads to its final drop off point which is in Imbiah Lookout. But now, there are a lot of drop off stations that connect to Sentosa. Same goes for the short causeways they added SBS transit bus services to widen the connectivity to Sentosa Island. Aside from the two transportation facilities, they also have Sentosa Express--a monorail that operated for 23 years and more lines were opened by 2007.

Note:

Make sure to spare 2-3 days (depending on your pace) for this island to explore all the attractions. Mind you, Universal Studios alone will eat up your entire day and yet, ticking off all the activities printed on the map isn't possible for just a day in the Studios.

This is an aerial view of the biggest water park in Sentosa and this photo was taken while enjoying our cable ride. Never had the chance to take a splash of their longest slide.

Sentosa Island itself is the main playground in Singapore. It's a long list actually to discuss each endless adventure in Sentosa.

But if you wanna explore all the attractions, you may click it here. So let me start on my first list and that is ...

1. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE

This attraction has seven zones that will bring the big screens come to life. Losing yourself in the magic of the movie world is the best way to a dazzling experience. The park is not only limited to roller coaster rides; it also offers shows and attractions in various movie-themed settings design not only for kids but for adults who kept the little joys of their childhood in their hearts.

Some of the cutting-edge rides that I have tried are: TRANSFORMERS the Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, don't dare to miss this ride; the BEST -- adrenaline is to the highest level! Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure (2nd best), Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, had a funny unforgettable experience during the ride. And oh, I skipped or shall I say I backed out from the line of The Mummy ride after being startled by the sounds and screams of the ones inside coming out from loudspeakers inside the Egyptian temple while falling in line waiting for our turn. I have regrets though but better be safe than sorry. I'm not a fan of horror movies so my thinking that time was I might collapse if mummies popped out suddenly in front of me.
A thorough article for this attraction will be in a separate blog, I'll just keep your mind-boggling for the meantime.

2. SONGS OF THE SEA

The only night extravaganza in the world showcasing live display of pyrotechnics, water jets, water screens, projectors, lasers, and bursting flames for a 25-minute open-air spectacular sea show held at SIloso Beach in Sentosa Island. A combination of a computer animation accompanied by an enthralling music with the performance of the 7-live performers. A journey of a young wan with a gifted voice who's in search of a sleeping Princess that should be set free from a deep sleep spell. For a comprehensive reading, check on my previous blog: Songs of the Sea: A Must See No More. And why is it a must see no more? Because the show has its last running last 2014. But another show was born and still up and running. This time it's called Wings of Time. The same as the Songs of the Sea, Wings of Time were having good reviews so I guess that is something that I can look forward to when I get the chance to visit Asia's playground.

3. CABLE CAR RIDE

One of my many first experiences in life is the cable car ride. Quite hesitant at first whether to take the ride or not. Two options were laid out by my brother in going to Sentosa Island, it's either via cable car or causeway. Since we have our senior parentals, we opted to have the cable car ride which I am grateful for another first time experience.

4. RESORTS WORLD SINGAPORE

Resorts World Sentosa / Photo Credit: Dimpsy

A recognition by the best of Asia-Pacific's travel industry given by the TTG Travel Awards for seven consecutive years as the “Best Integrated Resort”. We have not really explored Resorts World, we just stroll through the night after a fun day at Universal Studios and upon arrival at Sentosa Island during the day.

One shop that I fell in love with in Resorts World is the Candylicious where amazing candy trees with full of dangling swirly lollipops in various colors and forms. But the massive colorful candies, lollipops, and chocolates are more astonishing as you step inside the shop. Definitely, a pleasurable place to treat any one's sweet cravings.

5. SENTOSA BOARDWALK

One of the best ways to get to Sentosa is the use your legs by walking on the Sentosa Boardwalk the one where my Mudra had a snap. It isn't just cheap but beneficial to health as well.  Taking a walk on the boardwalk is fun since you get the chance to see a fantastic sight of the Resorts World waterfront. And while on your way, you can stop by at the Trick Eye Museum and the Crane Dance which we haven't taken that time.

A manageable walk for all but if you want to park yourself, use a travellator preferably. Take note though that there are parts of the boardwalk that doesn't have travelators, so you still need to do some tonings of your legs. No worries for any weather condition since the boardwalk is covered with canopies that will shelter you from whatever wheater temperature it may be.

6. IMAGES OF SINGAPORE

If you are a person who loves history then this place is suitable for you. This is a journey that will let you uncover Singapore's remarkable history of how it started humbly as a fishing village to a powerhouse of the 21st-century. There's a 45-minute actor-led attraction that features Spirit of Singapore Boat Ride, Live actors and special effects, 15 immersive, themed areas and get the chance to meet the people and pioneers of Singapore from one side to the other for a period of nearly 200 years.

VERDICT

Sentosa Island is indeed Asia's playground and home to endless adventure. I may not be able to explore all the adventure sites on the island but Universal Studios Singapore alone has given me much more of what I expected. I may leave out the unexplored adventures but nevertheless, Sentosa Island has provided me a playground with an endless adventure.

So plan wisely if you're planning to visit Sentosa Island. But as for me, an unplanned trip is the best excuse to keep on coming back to the place that I call my playground and my home to endless adventures.
