The Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island

The Bohol Island located in Philippines does not have much to boast of, but its Chocolate Hills make it a spot of tourist attraction. Usually, you will not see the connection of the hills with its name. They are entirely covered in grass and seem like huge mole mountains. However, at the end of the dry season, the color of the grass turns chocolate brown and hence, the name. Many people find it hard to believe, by seeing the picture of the Chocolate Hills that they are not fabricated.

The Chocolate Hills consist of 1268 hills in total and all are uniform in shape and color. The height varies from 30 to 50m. There are four legends related to how these hills were formed. The most famous one is that once upon a time two giants were fighting, and they threw sands, boulders and rocks at each other. When they got exhausted, they became friends and left the island leaving for us the chocolate hills. Well, such legends are famous because the geologists have not reached an agreement on how the hills were formed.  There are many theories like volcanic eruptions or land shifts, but the geologists have suggested nothing concrete.
