In this interview with Ushma Neill from the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Napoleone Ferrara talks about his early interest in science and his persistent focus on the factors that cause new vascular growth-- a focus that ultimately led him to discover the master regulator of all vascular growth: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Ferrara's work led to the development of Avastin (for cancer) and Lucentis (for wet age-related macular degeneration).
