Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah took oath as the first Governor-General of Pakistan on 15 August 1947. The same day he Inaugurated the Pakistan Broadcasting Service by delivering the following address to the nation -- his first as Governor-General.
Although the Last British Viceroy Lord Mounbatten had transferred power a day earlier, the Indian Independence Act 1947 recognized 15 August as the birthday of Pakistan, and it was on this day that the nation celebrated its "birthday" (although the “Independence Day” came to be marked as 14th in the subsequent years).
