Intercontinental Championship (I.C Title) is basically represented as a workhorse title in the business of professional wrestling. Wrestlers have to fight every week with other fellow wrestlers in order to defend their names, respect and the title as well. It is considered as the secondary title after the big titles like WWE Championship, Universal Championship or World Heavyweight Championship. These big titles are most likely meant to be defended once in a month at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) pay-per-view events. But in my opinion, Intercontinental Championship is the legit underrated belt which deserves more in the WWE. And on this month of 15, WWE finally put this title on the main event of their pay-per-view "Extreme Rules" which featured Dolph Ziggler defending his title against Seth Rollins in a 30 minutes Iron Man match.

The I.C Title is mostly considered as the first title which wrestlers win in their careers, then go on to make a name for themselves among the WWE Universe and later chase for the big belts. Same like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Triple-H did in their career. But there are some other wrestlers like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins who win the big one first and handed this belt later by the WWE bookers. I hate Roman though. LOL. Savage. haha.
Today I will tell you about those "10 Wonderful WWE Intercontinental Championship Matches In The History" which steal the show.
Note: I am not going to ruin these matches by mentioning the results. Go and watch it by yourself.
1. Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels (SummerSlam 1995)
This match is one of its kind because it consists of two of the best athletes in the WWE history. The match was built up for the I.C Title on the line which was suspended above the ladder. Rules where simple, the first man who climbs up the ladder and retrieve that title will win. Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon already had their epic battle previous year at WrestleMania X where they both competed in a ladder match as well. Razor took that match with a victory and yet again was planning to do it again. Both the wrestlers were playing as a babyface and that`s why that makes this match something unique.
2. Dolph Ziggler vs The Miz (No Mercy 2016)

Every wrestling nerd like me knows how good The Miz and Dolph Ziggler really are. They both are workhorses and really good athletes. Automatically this gives them the advantage in every match which they both performs. The Miz who was in a heel character and Dolph who was a babyface during that time, steal the show on that evening. What`s so special about this match? well, Dolph was failing to win back his title from The Miz on a number of opportunities and for the very last time, he put his career on the line to get it back. That`s why this match made it into the list.
3. Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho (The Bash 2009)

Chris Jericho is one of the best performers in the wrestling business and he is my favourite wrestler of all time. He is so innovative inside that ring that makes every match worth watchable. On the other hand, Rey Mysterio is a lucha style wrestler who basically flies all over the ring and performs the high-risk manoeuvres. Anyways, this match was built up as an I.C Title vs Mask Match, where Rey`s mask was on the line. The storyline showed us great climax when Rey used a look-alike which totally surprised Jericho. Again a worth watching match by the WWE bookers.
4. Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage (WrestleMania 3)

This match is considered as one of the best WrestleMania matches in the history by many. The storyline of this match was excellent as the two competitors where making I.C Title relevant for coming generations. Every single moment of the match is something different and the ending of the match will make you say WOW! During the dying moments of the match, an interference from George "The Animal" Steele turned the whole match upside down. If you haven`t watched this match and you calling yourself a wrestling nerd, then I am sorry you are not.
5. Marty Jannetty vs Shawn Michaels (Raw 1993)

This match was a right shot delivered at the right time. The heated rivalry between former buddies Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels made this match a cult classic. I personally think that this match was supposed to be in a pay-per-view event. The match was build after the vicious attack by the Michaels to his former tag team partner Marty. During the dying moments of the match, an involvement of Mr Perfect gives the final touchup to this wonderful battle.
6. The British Bulldog vs The Bret Hart (SummerSlam 1992)

I was waiting to talk about this match. Same like Razor vs Shawn I.C match, both Bret Hart and British Bulldog were playing a babyface during that time. This match was the main event of SummerSlam so instantly you can imagine how great this match could be. This pay-per-view took place at England, which gives a great home ground support to British Bulldog. You will see the loudest pop in the history of WWE by the London fans and not forget about the excellent performance by the Bret Hart. He is indeed the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.
7. Triple-H vs The Rock (SummerSlam 1998)
The two newcomers were trying to make a name for themselves by battling each other. This match also featured Ladder and its stipulation. Both smashed each other with the ladder in order to retrieve the I.C Title which was suspended above the ring. What makes this match so good is that it happened during the Attitude Era, which automatically makes it Non-PG. This match automatically made The Rock the next superstar and Triple-H the next big heel. And if you are a wrestling lover then you will love this match.
8. Shawn Michaels vs Jeff Jarrett (In Your House 2)
If you don`t know who Jeff Jarrett is then I will recommend you to watch his one of the finest match of his career. He was defending his I.C Title against Shawn Michaels in a fine battle. In Jeff`s corner was his buddy and closest friend The Roadie. If anyone doubts whether he should be added in WWE`s Hall of Fame or whether he was worthy of such a great honour, then their mouth will be shut after watching this pure gold.
9. Cactus Jack vs Randy Orton (BackLash 2004)
Randy Orton is a third generation WWE star and a great all-time performer in the history of WWE and Cactus Jack is a hardcore wrestling legend who did every dangerous thing to make a name for himself in the business. In a storyline, Randy Orton was viciously attacked a number of WWE Legends or I must say Hall of Famers to make a name for himself. His next target was Cactus Jack and he surely abused him throughout the rivalry. He even defeated Cactus Jack at WrestleMania XX in a 3 on 2 handicap match. Well now back to this match, it was so good booked by the WWE bookers and performed well by both wrestlers. It was their rivalry which makes this match an utter gold. You will witness a hardcore wrestling match through watching this match. Thumbtacks, barbed wire was heavily included throughout in this war.
10. Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect (SummerSlam 1991)
There is no doubt that this match is the best match in the history of this business for I.C Title. The built up for the match was excellent and the crowd reaction will give you goosebumps for sure. Mr Perfect was defending his title against fan favourite Bret Hart. The storyline of the match is gold as you will witness in the dying moments of the match that Bret Hart somehow managed to survive from Mr Perfect`s devastating finisher "Perfect Plex". And after the failed attempt, the shock on the face of Mr Perfect is the perfect moment to capture as no one ever able to do so. A worth watching match anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
