Sarees – what can we say? They’re pretty, make anyone look beautiful and can really take your style quotient a notch up – if worn right. But that’s exactly what we sometimes fail to do! Wondering what these mistakes are? We give you 14 bloopers that make the saree weep big fat tears.
#1 Wearing every piece of jewellery you own with your favourite saree – looks like Christmas came early this year ; )
#2 Wearing wedges or platforms under your saree – you may as well wear boots and call yourself a part-time lumberjack for crying out loud!
#3 Looking like you walked out of an old school bollywood movie – Matching saree, bindi, bangles, and of course matching flowers in the hair! It may have worked in the 50s, but we’d suggest avoiding colour coordinating every single accessory!
#4 Carrying a purse the size of a travel bag – isn’t it enough that you have to manage the pallu and pleats, now you have a big bag to lug around!
#5 Looking like Kathy Kinney aka Mimi Bobeck from The Drew Carey Show – flamboyantly garish make up et al. Bright coloured eyes with the brightest pout in the universe along with loads of pancake.
#6 Wearing the completely wrong blouse for your body type! No one and I mean no one wants to see side boob spillage.
#7 Blindingly bling sarees with an overdose of zari, gota and sequins! Stop trying to scare people, ladies!
#8 Blouse doris with bells and other adornments that are more suitable as festive decorations and are most certainly going to get stuck in your saree!
#9 Wearing maang tikkas and ear cuffs that are way too big and don’t stay in place.
#10 Being entirely unaware of your waist and wearing a saree way too high at Superman logo height!
#11 Draping it too low – Yes #10 goes both ways and this one is equally disastrous.
#12 Pleating the pallu of chiffon and net sarees – Haven’t bollywood movies taught you anything. Chiffon/net sarees are meant to be left loose. You’ll see why.
#13 While most people won’t care if your bra strap and petticoat is showing we think you should! Nothing makes a saree look tackier than that.
#14 Pinning up the blouse or pleats in the completely wrong way or with the pin showing
