For the audience Abhishek Varman's debut movie '2 States' might seem like the movie of the 80’s that is K Balachander's blockbuster hit 'Ek Duje Ke Liye', in which a Tamil boy crossed continual hurdles for getting her girl who was Punjabi. But, that film had a sad end.
2 States is however a cheerful film together with little sorrow. Romance in cross-border or even cross-culture situations is not a new subject for Bollywood. The simple narration which was told humorously made 2 States successful. This movie is cheerful exactly like the Chetan Bhagat’s best seller book, 2 States and the viewers also adapted it accordingly. Chetan Bhagat's funny jokes and the life-view are meticulously borrowed by 2 States’s director for the screen outing. The movie perfectly manages to surprise and charm its audience.
Krish Malhotra played by Arjun Kapoor and the Ananya Swaminathan played by Alia Bhatt met on the campus of IIM Ahmedabad. Sparks fly in between food poaching and economic coaching. Their gentle love, obsessive copulation as well as kissing chemistry made this duo grounds for spending their lifetime together. However in India, parents and tradition are taken care of and the couples need to factually marry one another's families.
By the way, for couples having inter-caste marriage, the movie 2 States could resemble their own story. The good-humored digs at one another's cultures, the self deprecating comments about each other's community and family are all funny moments. Amrita & Ronit, Revathi & Shiv Subramaniam suffuse life into the roles they played as Punjabi & Tamil parents. Alia and Arjun were also adorable. This movie is a family saga together with calculated melodrama and accurate amount of songs and dances.
