“2012 - PEACE ON THE HORIZON?” By, SUSAN SACIRBEY

A New Year is dawning; and with it, will come many resolutions, promises made, and hopes for a better tomorrow. It is a time to reflect on the seismic events of the past year – the positive and the negative, the milestone and mundane occurrences in daily life that affect us individually, in our families, and in the world as members of a greater humanity. Elisabeth Simon del Sol is a Facebook friend from Barcelona, Spain who is a member of the International Human Rights Commission. I’d like to share her special holiday message for Christmas and the New Year. It recaps 2011 with honesty, passion, and hope for a better tomorrow. Elisabeth’s Message in Full: “I'm not sure if we can feel happiness at this Christmas time, leaving behind this violent old year, and entering a new year full of hope... I've never been a friend of the hollow words. Today, yesterday, and tomorrow I want to see and feel reality as it is, and it is not going to be a happy Christmas and a Happy New Year for millions of people around the world, in which Christmas day is another day in the struggle for survival. Even so, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to 5,000,0000 million people who are unemployed in my country. For those who have lost their homes, to those who have no income. Merry Christmas to the young Tunisian, who by blowing himself up, unleashed the great revolution of this century. Happy New Year to those who yet, didn’t lose hope, and are still fighting for a more balanced, just and fraternal society. Happy New Year, for the Arab Spring, that has brought down in less than three months three dictators. Merry Christmas to the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iran. Happy New Year to “the Muslim Brothers," because they have been able to set up a new hegemonic order on the Arab world. Happy New Year to Gaza (Palestine) and “Mahmoud Abbas,” the one who managed to dig his little place at the UN. Happy New Year to Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libyan people, ..., Merry Christmas to the Syrian peoples and the 5,000 souls murdered, with total impunity, by the tyrant "Bashar Al-Assad." Meanwhile, the UN has only been a mere spectator from this tragic scene. Happy New Year to the young people, the major figures from our history, those who played a leading role in the revolution, and also have been connected to social networks, with their eagerness for freedom, peace and work. 2011 has been the WikiLeak's year, the Julian Assange year, and soldier Bradley Manning, too. Both repositories from historical truth, the secret reports that have been made public, and through which it has been able to reveal the state policy, in its most vile, wicked and perverse way... the protagonists of this cruelty and this useless war in which any officer or leader took any responsibility. The soldier Bradley's sensitivity reacted very quickly about all what it means to be a helper of the war perpetrators, and not hesitating by exposing courageously: the civilian's genocide in Iraq, the fun of American torturers at Abu Ghraib, the Guantanamo terror… But as always, it is clear the power is invincible and destroyer, therefore it has begun the moral and existential demolition against the main protagonists. Assange is now a rapist of Swedish ladies and also a crazy and ambitious visionary. While soldier Manning remains imprisoned under inhumane conditions (naked without clothes and blankets.) Iraq’s invasion, was a crime that should have led the courts and politicians trio who invented lies in order to start a mass killing. Bush, Blair, and Aznar are more susceptible to a court than the honorable soldier and brave reporter to whom it may fall into life imprisonment, due to the shameful offense over the most powerful army on earth. Even with the ugly truth of war without cause, this crude invasion that covered and masked a terrible lie: 100,000 Iraqi dead, and 4,500 American soldiers dead ... and the only Man jailed, is the brave soldier Manning, because until now, the great military power is exhibiting him as a big traitor. Evil always worships mediocre to survive and destroys the best people. Happy New Year to “indignant movement” in Barcelona, Madrid, Wall Street, Marseille, Paris, Chile…to those who have dared to take the streets and say it is enough! .. Happy New Year for the Russian people fed up with corruption, injustice and “Putin’s” lies they have taken to the streets demanding the return of the real politics on public scene. Happy New Year to Israel’s people plunged into poverty due to the negligence of its politicians and his ruinous military policy that Blocks any social progress in this country. Happy New Year to Israeli women too, who day by day are losing their rights and are increasingly marginalized by the Sephardic religious pressure. Happy New Year to Iraq and Iran's people; they are suffering sectarian violence, encouraged by tribal differences. Happy New Year to the Victims of China's dictatorship, and all its intellectuals denied freedom of expression. Happy New Year to the entire African continent. Happier and better year for those people who call for their independence and so is costing so many human lives (Kashmir, Balochistan, Palestine, Tibet, Republic of South Moluccas… With a silent toast from the depths of my soul, I will send my best wishes of happiness, peace, wealth and love to those who do not surrender, those that do not allow any manipulation, or sell themselves, those who still have faith. Welcome to 2012! The People's year!” -------------------- May we learn from those who have sacrificed so much for a better world, and courageously face the challenges ahead that will lead to a new world of security, peace, compassion for fellow man, and respect for our environment and all creation – man and animal. As the World’s custodians, let our resolutions echo “PEACE, LOVE, RESPECT, COMPASSION and LIGHT.” “HAPPY NEW YEAR” FROM DIPLOMATICALLY INCORRECT.
