Empowering children from Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Congo, Haiti, China, Indonesia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Mexico is what the Global Medical Relief Fund,“One Child at a Time”, is all about. “60 Minutes” is now set to air its profile of the Foundation along with its founder, Elissa Montanti of Staten Island
this weekend, Sunday, March 27, 7pm EST.

You may have read my blog “The Day the Earth Moved” in January. Pictured in that report is young Sara from Haiti, who journeyed to Staten Island and the Shriners Childrens Hospital in Philadelphia for a new leg. Two other young girls in need of prosthetics made the trip with her. I am
happy to relate that these three stars now have new limbs, a future, and smiles.

GMRF’s mission is to bring hope and dignity to children who are missing or have lost limbs, been severely burned, or otherwise damaged due to the atrocities of war, natural disaster, or illness. The Shriners Hospitals for Children provide prosthetics, and other medical partners include Long Island Plastic Surgical Group.

To-date, over 100 children from around the world, as well as the United States, have been given a new life, one child at a time, through GMRF. Elissa receives many requests from US servicemen and women overseas who witness war’s casualties firsthand. GMRF children return to their home countries as young Ambassadors for America’s people and the values of openness and giving,everything noble about America.
