You may have noticed that I'm writing a series of blogs about hair and how to take care of it. Hair fall or hair loss is a common problem that affects both genders. The cause of hair fall is wide and varied. It could be because of hormonal imbalance, exposure to pollutants, poor diet, and more.

In this blog post, I'm going to talk about 9 of the best natural home remedies for preventing hair fall.

✵  Coconut Oil  ✵

Coconut oil is known for its conditioning and moisturizing effects on the hair. However, its benefits on the hair do not end there. It also promotes hair growth while its essential fats, proteins, and fats help reduce hair fall due to breakage. It is also rich in iron and potassium. There are several ways you can use this for hair care. You can either apply it as it is directly on the scalp and hair for that extra moisturizing boost or mix it with other ingredients such as curry leaves.

You can do so by boiling some curry leaves in coconut oil. Let it cool down until it is warm enough then gently massage it on your scalp for 15 to 20 minutes. Repeat this procedure twice a week for better hair growth results.

It also encourages the growth of healthy hair cells by clearing the scalp of any extra oil or sebum that is blocking your follicles and preventing hair growth. Additionally, it is quite easy to use. You simply apply and massage pure aloe vera on your scalp. Easy-peasy!

Indian gooseberry or Amla is nature's gift to those suffering from hair loss. It is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants which makes it great for reversing hair loss as it strengthens the hair.

Mix 2 tablespoons of amla pulp or powder with 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Gently massage it to the scalp and let it sit and dry for 1 hour then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you get all the mixture out of your hair.

Onion juice is regarded as one of the oldest and most effective natural anti-hair loss remedy. It also encourages hair regrowth because its high sulfur content enhances blood circulation to hair follicles and promotes collagen production in tissues. Its antibacterial properties also help kill the germs and parasites on the scalp. Its only downside is the smell. But, your reward for bearing with the smell is strong and luxurious tress.

Cut, grind, and squeeze out the juice of a few pieces of onion then apply it on the scalp for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash it off with water, a mild shampoo and cleanser afterward. You may need to wash your hair more than once to get rid of the smell.

✵  Garlic  ✵

Garlic also has high sulphuric content just like onions. In fact, many traditional hair regrowth medicines use garlic as one of their main ingredients. Again, you'll just have to bear with the smell. No pain; no gain. But, hey! At least no aswang (the Filipino version of a vampire) will be bothering you.

Boil a few cloves of crushed garlic in coconut oil for a few minutes. Let the mixture cool down for a bit. When it is just warm enough, apply it on your scalp. Leave it on for half an hour before thoroughly rinsing your hair. For best result, do this twice a week.

You probably know henna as a natural hair color or conditioner. You may have also seen it used to create beautiful and intricate designs on the skin, pretty much like a temporary tattoo. But, did you know that it also has hair strengthening properties, especially when combined with other ingredients with the same properties?

Boil 60g of dried henna leaves on 250ml mustard oil. Remove the leaves and massage your scalp with the oil. Store the rest of the oil in an airtight container for future use. Do this every day for best results. You can also make a henna hair mask by mixing together curd and henna powder until you get a paste-like consistency. Apply it on the scalp and hair for 1 hour then thoroughly rinse it off.
