According to Gallup Pakistan, 85% of Pakistanis have never been to a library in their lifetime. That survey was conduced sometime ago and reports were shared by Chief Minister of Punjab's twitter account as well. However, even after knowing the sad fact, there weren't any mature measures considered.
Recent study conducted at University of Central Punjab, Lahore says 91% college graduates never study any non-academic book during their life at college or university. Study was conducted with a sample size of 40,000 students from various institutions in Lahore and were asked about the recent non-academic books they read in last 4 years.
Study found that 91% students who were enrolled in various institutions in Lahore said they have not read any non-academic book in past 4 years.
This may be mentioned here that number of books published per year in Pakistan is also decreasing. According to National Library of Pakistan, number of books published have decreased by 32% from 2012. This is an alarming situation for the growth of literature and human capital.
