"A CHILD IS A CHILD," By NAIDA SEKIC

DIPLOMATICALLY INCORRECT’s guest writer, NAIDA SEKIC, shares installment six of “A PLACE TO CALL HOME.” Naida is an inspiration to all the Bosnian & Herzegovinian diaspora, becoming a success in Sweden with the culmination of passing her difficult International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Yet, her inner compass always points to her homeland in Bosnia & Herzegovina and its people. Links to the previous five installments of Naida’s story are included following part six as well as photos of Naida’s Swedish standard graduation cap and a photo of her IB diploma. The comments generated from Naida’s story have been overwhelming. Her message has helped to heal many hearts. To all diaspora around the World of every ethnicity, faith, hope, and love will sustain you. ----Brought to you from Susan Sacirbey & DIPLOMATICALLY INCORRECT “A PLACE to CALL HOME” (Part 6)  By, NAIDA SEKIC My Father has always taught me that a child is a child, and I wish to believe that a child remains a child in all´s eyes, regardless of ethnicity and identity. Yet despite this, thousands upon thousands of children vanished in thin air during the Aggression of Bosnia and Herzegovina of 1992 to 1995. Deprivation of human rights, denial of basic human commodities such as water, food and electricity, killings of fathers, mothers and siblings, in addition to being under constant terror, starvation and fear for, what seemed as an eternity. How is this so? How may this be a fact? If only I knew why the world chose to keep silent and go blind whilst Bosnia and Herzegovina was a place of hell on Earth, a place of torture and misery, a place where people were longing to taste the sweetness of death. Even more staggering is the, to say the least, the notion that 20,000 up to 50,000 women were systematically sexually abused during the Aggression. Just imagine what this makes of a child, knowing one’s father is killed or tortured in atrocious death camps and one’s mother suffering the psychological genocide of rape? Unsurprisingly enough, this brutal truth may come as a surprise to many given that the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Holocaust is history in the eyes of the world. Yet, for many children, the vicious past of the War remains very much present. Perhaps the time has come for the world to recognize the horrors of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to act upon them! I know my people. I am aware of our potential and I believe in our strength. Yet, the children of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot blossom into the golden lilies they are if the world remains silent, thus does not acknowledge their aptitudes. All children matter and all children, as well as all people are entitled to their rights as human beings! I pray that little boy has found his way in life, and that he has become a man of good, despite having a voiceless Father. Lastly, I wish to thank all people who have contributed to the realization of this event. I wish to thank our Teachers for the knowledge that they have instilled upon us, for pearls of knowledge as the likes of our Teachers are treasures that are rather hard to find in a world such as today. Verily, from the bottom of my heart, and from the inner core of my soul, thank You all. May grievance become hope; may revenge become justice; may mothers' tears become prayers, that Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Srebrenica never happens again; to no-one and nowhere!
“What Is Sacred To You, Is Sacred To Me” For three years I was under constant stress and panic given my heavy workload as I studied at the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. In the beginning of May I wrote thirteen exams which were to determine whether I was worthy of an IB Diploma or not. The results were to come out on July 6, the day of my Father’s birthday. At the time I was in Malaysia, and surely I will never forget that day. I was inexplicably nervous, and the fear of failing my Diploma made me sick to my stomach. I felt as if I bore the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina on my back; and if I was to fail, I was to let her down given all my work related to this matter during my three years in IB. When the moment had come for me to face my results, I nearly fainted. Whilst speaking to my Mother on the phone, I began to cry hysterically when knowing that I had passed! My friends feared of approaching me as they thought that I had failed. I suppose it was an overwhelming feeling of relief, and I managed to get my Father the best birthday present, knowing that his daughter was set for University. Had it not been for my beautiful family and friends who supported me at all times and encouraged me to never give up, I strongly believe that I would not have made it. “May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.” “ --- To Be Cont’ d. --From Susan Sacirbey Facebook: Become a Fan at “DIPLOMATICALLY INCORRECT” & “BOSNIA TV””
