A Filmmaker's Blog

I am Brandon Rowe and am director of the short film "The City".
Just to give you a quick run through of what I have done as of now (I am 17 so all of this is only the beginning), I have gone to three film courses over the past several years: The New York Film Academy, the basic film course at the School of Cinema and Performing Arts (SOCAPA), and the advanced film course at SOCAPA, which is where I made "The City". I have also interned for the New Jersey Motion Picture Commission and currently volunteer at a local movie theatre. My film "The City" was accepted into the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
Now that I have gotten all of the main details, I would like to tell you a little more about myself and my film. While I admire many directors (Fellini, Bergman, Antonioni, etc.), I would consider my biggest inspiration to be John Cassavetes. Not only for being one of the few truly independent directors, but for making his films personal and true to himself, which is what I strive to do.
If you chose to watch my film "The City", I will just tell you first that I know it is far from perfect. Despite the flaws in its execution, however, I am still proud of it, mainly because I feel that what I wanted to express with the film could still be felt in the finished film. Being that I believe a film should be able to speak for itself, I will not go and describe what the film "means" or anything like that. The only thing I would like to say would be that I tried to the best of my ability to focus on the faces of the actors and let them reveal these characters.
Please check out "The City" and let me know what you think of it.
