A little about home...

Since we're from all over the globe, I thought I'd show you a little of where I live.

It's the land of: Kodak, Bauch & Lomb, Xerox. The founders of: Western Union, Monro Muffler Brakes, Ganette Newspaper, Paychex, Wells Fargo, eBaums World, The New York Times. The Free Methodist Church and Latter Day Saint movement started here. No listing would be complete without mentioning that Susan B. Anthony was from here and her best friend was Frederick Douglass. He wasn't born here, but he did live here for a considerable amount of time.

We've had some "firsts" too. First: female mechanical engineer [Kate Gleason], first woman to attain the rank of major general in the United States Army [Major General Mary E. Clarke], first female minister [Antoinette Brown Blackwell], first woman to become qualified as a medical doctor [Elizabeth Blackwell], first female attorney to practice before the Supreme Court [Belva Ann Lockwood], first American aviatrix [Blanche Stuart Scott], first president of University of Rochester & the first president of Stetson University both came from here.

The first recorded home run in professional baseball was from here [Ross Barnes]. Walter Hagen, one of the biggest names in Golf history was from here. Cab Calloway, Chuck Mangione and Lou Gramm were ours.

We're not NYC, nor do we care to be. We certainly have a rich culture and diverse crowd and many, many talented people that have had their effects on history. Welcome to Rochester, NY.

[That was all just a small sampling. There are TONS of famous people from this place of only a quarter of a million people. Here's a better listing:http://www.libraryweb.org/~rochhist/indexa.htm ]
