The one and only government-run residential hospital for the mentally retarded at Jamdoli, about 10 km from Jaipur in Rajasthan is now going through a new crisis, apart from so many problems it has to face every day. It is learnt that the hospital has seen six deaths since April 18 but the cause of these deaths is not clear to the doctors. It is reported that two of the children were suffering from 'profound' retardation while some of the inmates who died were also suffering from ailments related to the heart or kidney. Moreover, the inmates are administered anti-psychotic and anti-epileptic drugs and these have side-effects. So, until the post-mortem report is available, the cause of the deaths is unknown. But it can be hoped that henceforth the hospital authority must be very careful about the inmates and there should be no lapses in their care towards the inmates.
A matter of great concern as six dead at government home for mentally ill.
