A walk in the wild is a tiring activity where you need to pause in between walks. In between pauses you can check-out Animal Shows – one of the must-sees in Singapore Zoo. Be carried away with the fun rides and when the weather permits, you can grab an animal photography sessions with the Pony, Orang Utan, and Elephant. The Do's are not limited to rides and snapshots alone. One exciting thing to do while in the zoo is the Animal Feeding Programme but of course with the weather's permission.

If you are planning to see and do all the activities stated above then I would highly suggest spending a few minutes in laying out your map and plot down all the scheduled animal shows, that can be found at the upper left corner of the map. On the lower right of the map, you can check the animal photography sessions and the feeding programme can be found on the front page of the brochure. Once done plotting the show schedules you may proceed to the zones and enjoy your wildlife adventure.

UPDATED SHOWTIME

There are four animal presentations that performed twice a day in a good weather condition that you can choose and if you can watch all of it then that would be an awesome experience. Due to time conflict, and not being able to manage the time wisely we only got to enjoy the shows of Rainforest Fights Back and Elephants at Work and Play. If you are planning to visit the Singapore Zoo, then here are the animal show schedules that you might want to refer.

SPLASH SAFARI SHOW

Let the aquatic animals at the zoo thrill you with their flips and acrobatic dives by the California Sea Lion and gracefully glide on the water while balancing the ball on its nose. For a splashin' good time, be sure to go down at the end of the show to have your wet and wacky goodbye with the sea lions.

A spectacular show of humor and skills with the gentle giants of Asia -- Asian Elephants. Catch them as they play dead, lift and push the giant log/s, steal foods and their spraying abilities as they surprise the guests with splash using their long-range trunk. Here's a full video of the Elephants at work and play.

Watch the Lemurs, Orang Utans, Otters and others as they save the rainforest on the verge. Be awed as they show off their agility in flying and jumping. END OF SHOWS

There you go, the must-see shows in the zoo. Though we have come to the end of it, let me begin the must-do activities while in the zoo. Off to the next activity -- the animal rides.

ANIMAL RIDES

Aside from a splashy watery playground, kids can also meet the farmyard animals and enjoy the different animal rides. All rides in the zoo are weather dependent for safety reasons and for the welfare of both guests and animals. Purchase your tickets five minutes before the start of each ride.  For kiddy rides they are available at the Rainforest Kidzworld ticket both. So grab your ticket and get carried away with these fun rides.

WILD ANIMAL CAROUSEL

Tickets are available at Rainforest Kidzworld ticketing booth and height requirement for kids must be 1.2m or below.

ELEPHANT RIDE

Elephant Ride / Photo Credit: Dimpsy

My first time to see an elephant. During this time, they offered an elephant ride at S$8.00 respectively for both child and adult. But a year after that was 2014, I have read an article stating that the zoo ceased elephant rides or other activities done outside the exhibit vicinity. A new adaptation by Wildlife Reserves Singapore as part of a new elephant management system to further improve the safety of the people working in direct contact with the elephants as well as safeguarding the proper care and welfare of the big giants. Lucky are those who experienced the ride. Ahhhhh...regret struck me!

There are tram rides at the zoo that you can also enjoy but I don't have much knowledge about the ride so let's end the trail here and proceed to the last thing to do when in the park and that is the Animal Feeding Sessions.

ANIMAL FEEDING SESSIONS

Fifteen minutes before the feeding sessions start, make sure that you already purchased a slice of food-on-site. In buying the food-on-site be as early as possible because there is a limited supply of food for each feeding session. So if you want to feel the excitement as to how the stars of the zoo eat out of your hand, go ahead and purchase those ticket/s and let the exciting adventure begin. Sad to say we skipped this part here but I promised myself that I will be visiting the country again I will definitely do all the skipped and missed activities during my first visit since I never got the chance to do it during my second visit.

ELEPHANT FEEDING

The venue is at the Elephants of Asia Zone.  There are three sessions available for you to choose at your convenience:

9:15am / 1:30pm / 4:30pm

GIRAFFE FEEDING

Go directly to the Wild Africa Zone and avail any of the three scheduled feeding sessions:

10:45am /  1:50am / 3:45pm

HAMADRYAS BABOON FEEDING

Feeding site is at Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia Zone. Available time slots are as follows:

2:30pm  /  5:00pm

GOAT FEEDING

Come by at RAINFOREST KIDZWORLD around these times:

11:30am / 3:30pm

WHITE RHINOCEROS FEEDING

Visit the Wild Africa Zone and feed the White Rhinoceros at 1:15 pm. Only one-time slot available for this feeding session. Make sure to get the feeding tickets early as possible before animal food supplies run out.

NOTE:

All proceeds will go through the funding of the wildlife conservation efforts in the region.

Those were the list of activities that you must do and see at the zoo. Other activities that you might want to include in your itinerary would be the Wildlife tours which I didn't discuss due to limited information since I didn't get to experience it firsthand. If you want to have a hands-on experience to enhance your knowledge regarding the animal kingdom then you must try to camp out together with the wildlife, surely it's one of a kind experience for your kids or for your family.

FINALE

The end of my wildlife adventure trail has come to a dead-end.  After the trip, I learn to appreciate people who devoted their time to taking care and looking after the welfare of their pets. They're the only ones who best know the quirks of the animals. This wildlife adventure isn't only for pleasure but an eye-opener with a realization that:

in the world we live-in, every living thing big or small has much right to live just like you and me.

Here's a recap video of Singapore Zoo by Bethany Janelle. Feeding sessions and some shows are shown here as well as the wildlife animals. Seeing this video make me want to go back to the zoo.
