A Simple Drive HOme

"Ah, done another day at work. I just can't wait to get home". I say see yeah to all the co workers I pass as I make my way out to my car. I start the engine. I back up out of my stall and make my way out of the parking lot. I sit and wait for a gap in traffic so I can leave. Finally a gap in traffic. I proceed to go, but wait here comes this car flying down the road well over the speed limit making me pause as I have to wait for one last car. Alright ready to go, as a pedestrian just so happens to walk right in front of me on the sidewalk. Now I have to wait for this person to cross the parking lot exit. Just as I'm about to press on the accelerator another group of cars apparently got their green light and come streaming down the road. I just think to myself "I'm going to put a different CD in". I have time to do so, and change the song to the one of my liking. Ok the street is clear. I see another car speeding down the road and just think "screw it, I'm going". I pin the gas and barely make it in the lane as the speeding car seemed like it was accelerating when it saw me making my turn. Almost like "how dare I cut in front of him" sort of deal.

I make my way down the road and end up behind a bunch of cars waiting for the light to turn green. I took the left lane because there were semis in the right lane, and semis have slow acceleration. The light turns green and I sit and wait for our lane to move, but the lane with the semis seems to the lane that's moving as I sit here in wonder "what in the world is going on up there?". Sure enough the semis make it through the light, while I didn't make it and here I am waiting for the light to turn green again. I do my best to compose myself at this moment and try to keep in tune with the music in my car to try to make the best of the situation. Finally after all of the arrows, and other lights it's our turn to go.

I step on the pedal and try to pass the car in front of me and turn my signal light on, but there just isn't enough room to pull in the right lane as there is barely a car length between the car in front of me and the car in the right lane. It's almost like they both are doing it on purpose just to bug me. I can't conclude that, but it sure seems like it. Down the road I finally have just enough of a gap to squeeze between them, and as I am entering into the right lane the driver in the right lane speeds up almost like "how dare I try to get in the right lane in front of them". However, I make it into the lane and the person behind me is right on my ass.

I speed up and turn my signal light on so I can get back into the left lane, and now I have a fricken race on my hands. I can't afford a ticket so I slow down and let the guy go ahead of me cause I really need the left lane quite soon so I can turn left at the next intersection. I get back in the lane and think to myself "well that was useless", then get into the left turning lane and end up waiting to make the left turn behind a semi which is right in front of me.

I was one of many cars as we all sit and wait for the arrow. Finally the arrow light comes on. I'm watching and waiting to see if I can see any cars make the turn. I count to about 5 seconds in my head and finally I see the first car making the left turn. Then I count to another 3 seconds and then the second car finally makes the turn. In total there were 4 cars that made the turn before the arrow turned yellow. I thnk to myself "There could have easily been 10 cars that would have made it through that arrow". Right now there are about 10 of us waiting to make the left turn at the moment. I wait and wait for the arrow to come on again. It took another 2 turns then the semi in front of me started making the turn. I can't see any lights at this moment because this big semi trailer is blocking my vision so I have to hold off and wait for the semi to make the turn so I can see if the arrow is still on or not. The semi is now cleared from my vision and I see the arrow turning yellow. I was at a crossroads "should I go, or should I wait?" as I had literally one second to decide. "Ah, I'm gunna go", so I pin the gas pedal to the floor and barely make it before the red light camera could get me.

"Ah, finally" I make it to my neighborhood and take the corner to get onto my street, but first I have to wait for these kids to cross the street. They passed and I'm finally able to pull into my driveway and get out of my car and pretend that yet another daily drive didn't happen.
