Kabuli Rabab or in Persian pronounced as robab, is a traditional Pashto instrument. Widely played and liked in the subcontinent region and Afghanistan. It has a very sweet and enchanting sound and competes well with the modern instruments like guitar, sitar and voilen etc.
It has been been given the prestige of being the national instrument by the governmnet of Afghanistan. It also holds the title of being the only king of all the string instruments. People in Pashtoon areas of Pakistan also play it and is a vital part of our traditional music. It is an essential element in wedding ceremonies and rejoicing occassions. Rabab has a unique tune. Anything played in it makes us feel as if it is talking to us while sitting infront of us. It is a great instrument indeed and no doubt it is our valuable cultural heritage.
Listen to this beautifully played tune....
