A Tribute: Remembering Tatay Tony

Posted on at

He was well known in the community as Tony, his nickname, which was taken from his real name Antonio. He was a good father to nine children, Reymar, Vangeline, Ronnie, Richard, Cristeta, Ryan, Arlene, Ron Meynard and Clarissa and a grandfather to twelve grandchildren. He was a very kind hearted man.

At the age of 64, (he was a senior citizen then - president in the barangay) he can still work in the rice field. He was not too old enough to plow, plant and harvest rice the traditionally way. One part of his land was planted with rice and the othet part with sugarcane. Aside from that, fruit bearing trees are also planted at the corner of his land which served as a fence indicating the boundaries of his land.

Farming was his primary source of income. He worked hard in the farm to raise his chilren and be able to send them to school. Indeed, he was a very industrious man. Poverty was not a hindrance thus, all of his children graduated high school. Such great achievement for a man who was not educated neither graduated elementary.

He was an early riser. He was used on waking up early as if he was a student who will go to school or an employee who will be working in the office. When he was still alive, I frequently hear him calling my husband's name, Reymar, and have a chat with him about anything happening in the barangay at four or five oc'lock in the morning. Such an early father and son bonding.

Thats the way it is. The whole family misses you... Tatay Tony.
