Accused dies in police custody

An accused arrested in a land dispute case died in police custody in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur early Friday.

The deceased is Nur Mohammad Munshi, 35, a resident of Dakkhin Beel area of Nalia village in the upazila.

Afsar Uddin, officer-in-charge of Nagarkanda police station, said following an arrest warrant issued by a local court, police arrested Nur Mohammad and his brother Nurul Islam, 30, in connection with a case filed over a land-related dispute by one Lutfur Munshi on

Thursday night.

On the way to police station, Nur Mohammad fell sick and was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 12:00am.

Dr. Farid Uddin Ahmed, duty doctor, said police brought the two accused in the night.

Doctors found saliva gusting forth from the mouth and nose of Nur Mohammad when he was brought to the hospital, he said.

Hazera Begum, mother of the victim, alleged that Lutfur Rahman along with his associates had killed his son after torturing him in police custody.
