Action Against Hunger strongly condemns the senseless killing of our colleague in Juba, South Sudan yesterday in armed robbery at our office compound. 

At 4:45 local time yesterday, five armed men entered our compound and held several staff members at gunpoint while robbing them. During the incident, Rombek Paul Mori, our Cholera Water Supply Supervisor, was killed. He worked with Action Against Hunger during two cholera campaigns and was a dedicated humanitarian professional. 

"We are shocked and saddened by the killing of Rombek Paul Mori.  He was deeply committed to helping the people of South Sudan. His tragic death is a loss to Action Against Hunger, but more importantly to the people whose lives he worked to save," said Chris Lockyear, Operations Director for Action Against Hunger.

Action Against Hunger is outraged by this violent act and calls on the South Sudanese authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. 

We call on the South Sudanese authorities to ensure the protection of humanitarian personnel. Action Against Hunger’s offices are clearly marked, and Mori was wearing a shirt with the organization’s logo clearly visible. This brutal attack is a clear threat to humanitarian space in South Sudan.

Action Against Hunger has been working in South Sudan for the past twenty years, providing lifesaving treatment to undernourished children.
