Afghanistan, a place with a remarkable history and traditional culture, is located in the heart of Asia. Afghanistan has its own typical climate. It offers a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and ingredients which, when put together, provide many different recipes.

Most of the time, Afghan food is served with bread or rice that you can find in each Afghan tablecloth. Afghan food, as in in Central and South Asian countries, is spicy and use saffron, coriander, cardamom and black pepper. The Afghans prefer a cuisine which is neither too spicy nor hot.

Even here in NYC, there is an Afghan restaurant which provides pure Afghan food cooked in traditional styles called Khyber Pass.

Below is an interview with Shabir Noor, the owner of Khyber Pass restaurant.

FilmAnnex created a culinary web channel about Afghan food with videos shot in NYC and Herat, Afghanistan by Afghan Citadel. They provide videos for those who are interested in learning how to cook Afghan and Central and South Asian food.

To know a country's culture and traditions, it is not needed to go and explore it. By cooking several recipes, you will understand what is needed to know about a country.
