I just arrived three days ago from Afghanistan to NYC, a city with 8 million people which was damaged recently by Hurricane Sandy. The electricity in many parts of the city went out and there were not enough alternatives for back up. However, in Afghanistan, having no electricity for some hours will not be a big issue which could affect people's lives and work.
Today, I saw many school children who started going to school after the storm and continue their normal education. I could imagine the Afghan school children who study under tents in any situation and dream to have one day a real classroom.
However, we can not forget the power of social and digital media in any part of the world, even in Afghanistan. Building Internet classrooms for young school children and connecting them to the virtual world without any physical border would be a good solution to enable Afghan students to exchange their ideas and share what they think with everyone.
Giving access to 160,000 students to the Internet and providing a standard social and digital media curriculum which gives them the opportunity to write blogs about Afghanistan and how they can use the online educational software system "Examer" to improve and update their educational system is a great achievement which is done by FilmAnnex and Afghan Citadel. It can make Afghanistan an example for other South and Central Asian countries to establish a connection and provide better educational system for their young generations.
