Jake Herbert was born on March 6th, 1985. He was a wrestling athlete and a silver medalist at the 2009 World Championship, a Pan Am Games gold medalist in 2011. He is arrived 2nd at the US world championship team trials in 2011. He won the silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics. He studied physics at Northwestern University and won the student of the year award in high school.

Last Monday, I participated in an incredible event at the New York Athletic Club where all the Olympic athletes and champions were there to celebrate their victories.

In Afghanistan, we use proverbs a lot in our daily life. It is part of our culture and traditions. There is a proverb which always gives me inspiration when I am thinking about my country and its future: "Donya ba Omid Zende ast" - "The world is alive with hope". Life is like a sports. You must have the spirit to fight against every problem and you should never give up.

While I was at the NYAC event, I noticed that sports plays an important role in society in establishing relationships with other nations and spreading cultures, thoughts and ideas. This is how Jake Herbert and other athletes around the world try to compete for their country and to be an inspiration for the young generations who are building their country's future.

Young Afghan boys and girls are the ones who will bring peace in Afghanistan. Building Internet classrooms in Afghanistan and supporting sports together will make a good combination to have a peaceful Afghanistan.
