Cause Effect Agency, featured previously on Diplomatically Incorrect, continues to build bridges between the artistic community and those organizations supporting peace and sustainability in an alchemy that benefits all by raising the profile of worthy causes and those celebrities who support them. Teaming with such worthy partners as WhyHunger, they have managed to knit together an ongoing stipend for Hope North work in rehabilitating/educating former child soldiers/sex slaves. See Diplomatically Incorrect 3-Part Interview at UN with WhyHunger, (Bill Ayers) Hope North (Okello Sam)and Cause Effect Agency - diplomaticallyincorrect.org/films/movie/whyhunger-un/29316. “We are proud to work with organizations that focus on supporting local solutions to local problems, helping others empower themselves on the road to peace, sustainability and prosperity,” says Chris Talbott, who founded the DUMBO, Brooklyn-based agency 14 years ago. “We look forward to sharing their stories in the coming year.” The latest beneficiary of their consulting was Somali Mam’s Project Futures launch in Los Angeles, which raised over $15,000 dollars. In addition, the Project Futures model inspired other fundraising events with high-profile supporters including Serinda Swan (star of the A&E show "Breakout Kings”) who enlisted other high profile friends to join her raise $18,000 for Somaly Mam Foundation's work ending the sex trade industry, actually doubling their fund-raising goal. Serinda Swan will also be joining a Project Futures 10-day bike marathon in Cambodia (from February 27 to March 10) where each rider is raising $5,500 for Somaly Mam Foundation's work. Somaly Mam Foundation's annual recent annual gala honored Russell Simmons, the Body Shop Americas and U.S. Department of State Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Melanne Verveer for their commitment to ending modern day slavery. Notable guests included included AnnaLynne McCord, Petra Nemcova, Padma Lakshmi, Ron Livingston, Somaly Mam, Susan Sarandon and Russell Simmons. Another beneficiary of Cause Effect Agency’s help is Heifer International, whose high-profile supporters took to Twitter to encourage fans to give gifts of livestock and training to impoverished families around the world through Heifer's online gift catalog. Participants included Adrian Grenier, Mia Farrow, Patricia Heaton, Ed Asner, Joe Mantega, Eva Amurri, Lauren Bush, Janie Bryant, Mary Steenburgen, Alton Brown, Ashley Judd and Serinda Swan. Also, longtime supporter Jane Kaczmarek appeared with a sheep on The Wendy Williams Show, and Grammy award-winning musician Dan Zanes was joined by goats, ducks and rabbits on Fox and Friends to promote Heifer's unique alternative holiday gifts. Hope North Founder Okello Sam visited New York in November where he had an opportunity to promote his work building peace in Uganda for survivors of the region’s long civil conflict. Okello was joined by Chris Talbott (whose organization serves as Hope North's principle fund-raising arm) appeared on Diplomatically Incorrect/UNTV for an interview with Bill Ayers from WHYHunger to discuss global hunger. (See Above link). Okello Sam and Chris Talbott were also interviewed on The Brian Lehrer Show to discuss Okello's work with Hope North and President Barack Obama's recent decision to send military advisors to Uganda to assist in the capture of Joseph Kony, leader of the The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).
