Alamo

The Alamo is a name, which is often mistakenly applied just to the church. Originally and factually, it is a 4.2-acre complex that contains a mixture of historic and modern structures. The structure includes the following:

  • Church or a shrine: This is the most recognizable structure on the ground
  • Long Barrack: This was a two-story convent and was served as the quarters and offices of the Spanish missionaries. This later became the Hugo Schmeltzer store. These are constructed of wood and we have historic photographs, which display that the walls too were made of wood.
  • Gift shop (Centennial Museum): This was built in 1937 and was recently renovated in 2012.
  • Alamo hall: This was built in 1922 as a fire station.

Alamo is a former Franciscan mission located near the present day city of San Antonio. This is a Spanish mission, which was built in 1718. This was built to provide conversion into catholic faith as well to protect tribes. The battle of Alamo became an enduring symbol of their heroic resistance to oppression and their struggle for independence, which was eventually won by them. This event is vital in the Texas revolution. This event is familiar to almost all humankind.
