On January 11th 1946 Albania formally abolished the monarchy and established a "people's republic" which, as might be guessed, meant a Communist state. Admittedly it had effectively already been a Communist state for two years.
The monarch in question was King Zog I, who had been previously the Prime Minister and then the President before making himself king in 1928. In 1939 he was forced to flee the country following the Italian invasion, and was never able to return. Following the liberation of Albania in 1944 a provisional government was established and Zog was barred from returning to the country, even though it remained a monarchy at that point.
