On this day (23 October, 1086) the Murabitun (also known as the Almoravids) decisively defeated Christian forces led by King Alfonso VI of Castile at the Battle of Sagrajas. The victory halted the Christian Reconquista for the time being, preventing Andalusian cities like Seville, Cordoba, and Valencia from falling until the 1200s.
