According to The Wall Street Journal report, Amazon online retail plans to open its first physical store in New York City this year. The said physical store will operate as the Amazon's online business. Plans for the physical store are still in development, and Amazon may also consider using the store to showcase inventory such as the Kindle, Fire Smartphone, and Fire TV.

I highly doubt that they would have every items that they list on their website stored there. So it doesn't guarantee that you could just pick up the item that you wanted and go. Anyway, this could be interesting. Being as the largest online retailer, Amazon is already competitive against the traditional brick-and-mortar retailers. But if this plan is a success, we could see more physical Amazon stores popping up.
