Like other asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, the Philippines starts to make its own label and name when it comes to local food. Aside from having a rich culture, talented people and the best roast pork, our country also offers variety of tasty delicacies particularly junk foods. Very known to be bought from local convenience store or “sari-sari” store, Filipino junk foods also have their own identity just like the other imported junk foods.

Youtube channel Buzzfeed uploaded another taste test featuring some Filipino junk foods. The junk foods that were put into test are milk candy Haw Haw, mocha sandwich Hansel, shrimp flavored chips Kirei and chocolate powder Mik Mik.

How did the Americans find Filipino Junk food? For the milk candy Haw Haw, the women tasters found the milk candy to taste like food supplements or vitamins that they used to take. The Hansel mocha sandwich on the other hand got a much positive feedback due to its rich smell and flavor like coffee pancakes. One female taster even labeled Hansel as “The Philippine Oreo”. When it comes to Kirei, although most of them don’t know how to pronounce correctly the name Kirei (ki-rey), still they found the chips yummy and flavorful. The guy taster tried to compare the shrimp flavored chips to veggie chips. Lastly but definitely not the least, the chocolate powder Mik Mik was put into test. Among all this chocolate powder certainly left an impression to the American tasters not only because of its name but also because of the way on how to consume this chocolate powder, not by pouring a hot water and drink it, but by using a straw to sip the chocolate powder which made them cough at first but as the taste test continued, they found the chocolate powder interesting and played with it.

Like the other Buzzfeed videos, the Filipino junk foods taste test video got thousands of hits and feedbacks among the netizens which are mostly Filipinos. As of now, the taste test video garnered more than 400 thousand views in less than a week.
