Amir Ali Sher Nawaie was one of the famous people in the history of Herat, he was a great poet and scholar in his time, besides he was the minister of Sultan Hussein Bayeqra that was the Herat king in 1469. The school was established and named after him in 1989. The school is located in the north of Herat city and currently it is one of the most successful Afghanistan schools for girls.
At the time it was both male and female school but according Afghanistan culture in different shifts and it continued the same until 2011. In 2011 the school was parted into two separate male and female parts but they are still under the same name. Currently the female students are studying in three different shifts. The school has 99 classes, more than 4000 students and 155 teachers.
Since the female school has recently parted from the male one it has a lot of necessities. Rahima Kawish the Teaching Assistant of Amir Ali Sher Nawaie High School says that the main necessities of the school are space, first aid room and computer class which both teachers and students suffer from. In order to change Afghanistan women first the schools need to be armed with education materials.
Maryam one of the students says, “It is the technology era and every learner is seeking to learn computer and Internet.” She continues. “We as Afghan girls who have been kept far from knowledge due to war in Afghanistan are the ones that need to learn the most in the world. After the 10 dark years of Taliban regime we now know the importance of knowledge and as I see the demand is the most, but unfortunately the studying materials and facilities we have here are the least. Today it is one of the best days of my life; I can’t explain my feeling about having a computer class in our school it is a really positive step in Afghanistan education. When I think that I as an Afghan girl learn to connect with the world like any other women and share my idea, it gives me a power which I couldn’t feel it till now. I really appreciate the sponsors of this program who understood my pain and took such wise decision. This is the best decision anybody could ever take for us, we don’t need food or money we need knowledge.”
The school has a lot of intelligent students who speak English fluently and all of them are really eager in learning computer and Internet.
