This week I watched a very impressive episode about Technology in 60 Minutes on CBS. I found it very interesting as I have a technical background and studied Computer Science. The story is about IDEO firm which incorporates human behavior into product design in an innovative approach.
How to design breakthrough inventions
David Kelley is the company founder and a very close friend of hight tech Steve Jobs, He says: being friend with him is like "drinking from a fire hose"
IDEO created thousands of innovative products which includes the first Apple mouse, in the others word they are one of the most influential design product company in the world. What they focus in IDEO is the concept of "Design Thinking". David Kelley believes that the big thing about Design Thinking is that people come upe with different ideas together, so it is not like a linear procedure if you have an idea someone else comes up with another idea so you try to build ideas based on each other.
For me their concept is really impressive, they focus on critical thinking and problem solving strategies but the core issue is the people who are creative and working together to innovate a product.
While I was in Afghanistan I participated in several workshops about Information Technology and Communication issues and I did not find any innovative point and creativity on them, but it was last year January 23-26 2012, I participated in the first innovation Lab in Afghanistan which was " Kabul Innovation Lab". This year they will have the second innovation lab in Kabul on 11-14 February 2013.
Participants were mainly from governmental organizations and private companies with technical background with foreign and Afghan consultants. The main idea was, how different groups can come up with a solution of using mobile technology instead of Internet to solve daily life problem of those who do not access to full time Electricity and Internet in Afghanistan. We used many Open Source technologies and combine it with our concept and represented it in the final day. Our group "Hajj Group" won the first position among others with the most practical concept.
It was one of the most active and innovative lab I have ever experienced in my technical life. I understood one thing out of that innovation lab which is, there are many potential and creative minds in Afghanistan specially in young generation in Technology but, unfortunately there is not any practical platform for them to implement their ideas in practical way and see the output.
I wish there would be a place like IDEO which gives the opportunity to creative minds to experience their thoughts and learn how group working and communication lead them to have a remarkable output. I will contact Mr.David Kelley and share my experiences with him in Afghanistan and define how IDEO and other innovative firm will support Afghan Youth which make their dreams into reality by giving them the chance to implement their concepts.
برای من با پیشینه تحصیلی در رشته کامپیوتر ساینس ، برنامه این هفته ۶۰ دقیقه با سی بی اس بسیار جالب توجه بود. در این برنامه آنها با دیوید کلی که بنیانگذار شرکت آی دی او، هست مصاحبه ای را انجام دادند. این شرکت یکی از بهترین شرکتها در زمینه خلق نظریات جدید و طراحی آنها بر اساس نیاز مردم و شرکتها و تطبیق آنها به صورت عملی است. در واقع دیوید کلی یکی از دوستان صمیمی استیو جابز گرداننده اسبق اپل میباشد که با همدیگر همکار بودند. از جمله تولیدات اولیه این شرکت طراحی اولین موس برای شرکت اپل بوده است.
نکته قابل توجه در مورد این شرکت این است که افراد مختلف با زمینه های کاری متفاوت با همدیگر یکجا شده و نظریات خلاقانه خود را با هم شریک میسازند. هدف از یکجا سازی در واقع رسیدن به یک هدف مشخص با تلفیق نظریات گوناگون میباشد.
در حال حاضر در افغانستان در زمینه فن آوری تکنولوژی معلوماتی و ارتباطات در قسمت ایجاد ورکشاپ و کارهای عملی، فعالیت چندان به خصوصی صورت نگرفته است. سال گذشته من در یکی از اولین لابراتوارهای ابتکاری در افغانستان شرکت کردم که در آن تلفیقی از کارشناسان داخلی، خارجی و شرکت کنندگان در بخش آی تی از بخش های دولتی و غیر دولتی بود. هدف این ورکشاپ خلق راه های ابتکاری به منظور استفاده از موبایل به جای اینترنت برای حل مشکلات روزمره در ادارات دولتی و سایر نهاد ها بود. شرکت در این لابراتوار ابتکاری تجربه جالبی برای من بود، دیدن جوان های افغانی که مشتاقانه در مورد خلق نظریات جدیدشان کار میکنند قابل توجه بود. متاسفانه در افغانستان مکانی مشخص به منظور به عملی در آوردن نظریات و تجربه آنها وجود ندارد. من بر این باورم که جوانان افغان دارای قوه خلاقیت بالایی میباشند اما با کمبود امکانات فراوانی در زمینه تطبیق آن روبرو هستند. من سعی و تلاش نهای ام را انجام میدهم و فرصت را غنیمت میشمارم تا نه تنها با دیوید کلی بلکه با سایر افرادی که در این زمینه فعالیت دارند در تماس شوم تا راهی مناسب برای ایجاد یک مکان مناسب به منظور خلق دستاوردهای جدید در افغانستان ایجاد کنیم انشالله
