An Asian Dilemma

Posted on at

Everybody loves summer. No cold nights, partying under the sun (or moon? :3), sun bathing, enjoying the view of sunrise and sunset, swimming on the sea, and the spare of wearing thick uncomfy clothes every single day. But seems like the Asian are the only exception.

Most of the Asian people especially for those who haven't gone to western countries have a phobia of staying under the sun for even less than a minute. Wearing of long sleeves while enjoying the sea is practiced (even me, I'm guilty) and the very useful umbrella is used while walking under the sun, others also wears long sleeves, they will endure the heat just to protect their skin to be exposed to it. Lot's of us also prefer to stay inside our homes even if it is already very boring to spare us to the sun.

We are also fond of buying the ever popular whitening beauty products, from soaps, lotions, creams, etc. that comes from a wide range of specifications from head to foot and use this every night and day. Sounds outrageous but even the areola have a whitening product.

We try so hard to make our skin be lighter and make ourselves to be more presentable that makes us obsessed with beauty as what other races may perceive.

But there are also people say that "physical appearance doesn't matter", "you will be accepted for who you are for the people who loved you truly" and this could stir our brains if they said that for the sake of making us feel better and admit that we are not pretty.

Did we sacrifice the leisure of life and forgot to live our lives to the fullest for the sake of beauty or we just did the right thing to achieve our standards of beauty and make us acceptable to our people? Should we really accept our overall selves and forgot what other people think of us?

What should be done?
