On October 5th 1969 the first episode of a new television series was first broadcast by the BBC in the United Kingdom.
The programme featured five Britons and one American, and was a collection of satirical sketches, innuendo laden humour, and various weirdness. The six people in it were John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. The series was Monty Python's Flying Circus, and it ran for a total of 45 episodes over four series, as well as a number of feature films.
The show has since entered into history, with a number of sketches becoming global memes, such as Spam, whereby spam email got its name, as well as the Python programming language, the dead parrot sketch and the Ministry of Funny Walks.
