Here’s Google’s next version of its Android OS!
Google has finally unveiled the name of its next version for the Android OS, and now the cat is out of the bag. Android 5.0 will officially be called Lollipop, and the search giant is promising it to be the biggest and most ambitious update yet, with over 5,000 new APIs for devs. We’ve covered most of Android Lollipop’s features during Google’s I/O event, but here’s just a preview of what you can expect:
- A new consistent design across all devices dubbed Material Design
- Better control over your device, notifications displayed on your lockscreen
- Built-in battery saver feature that extends your phone’s battery life up to 90 minutes more.
Android 5.0 Lollipop will be in Google’s recently announced Nexus 5 (2014), Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. In addition, Google also confirmed that the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, as well as Google Play Edition smartphones will receive the new Android version in the coming weeks. Motorola devices will also be getting Android Lollipop updates in the coming days (or weeks, nothing is solid as of yet) which include the Moto X, Moto G, Moto E, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini and Droid Ultra.
Finally for those people who like to tinker with the new version of the OS, the Developer Preview of Android 5.0 is set to land on Friday, October 17.
