Today, January 1st, is Apple Gifting Day.

This isn't a day to give an Apple product (much as that might be appreciated) but an apple fruit.

The apple is one of the most widely cultivated fruit trees, and there are thousands of varieties grown around the world. The country that produces far and above the greatest quantity of apples - more than half the total worldwide quantity - is the People's Republic of China. The apple tree did originate in Asia though.

Apples can be eaten raw or cooked, and are used as the base of many foods and drinks.
