An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rocked the north-east state of Assam in India on Sunday morning at around 6:40 am. The epicentre of the quake is reported to be 23 kilometres north of Basugaon and 33 kilometres north-east of Kokrajhar. Tremors were also felt in other part of the North East, as well as the adjoining countries of Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. However, no loss of life or property was reported so far.
