Introduction: Due to continuous cropping, the soil looses its fertility and the objective of the good crop yield can not be achieved without knowing the actual fertility status of the soil. For profitable crop production, the availability of essential plant nutrients is imperative. Therefore assessing the fertility status of the soil is essential which should be determined from time to time and after every three years. Therefore the above study was initiated to assess the fertility status of Shakardara Soils.
Materials and methods: A total of 20 soil samples were collected from Shakardara area to a depth of one foot. The soil samples were air-dried, grinded, passed through 2mm mesh sieve and were subjected to analysis for pH, Electrical conductivity, lime, % organic matter, % nitrogen and textural class.
Results and discussion: The data presented in table-SS 3.1. The data showed that there is no any abnormality in the soil. The pH and total salt contents are in the normal range. Texturely the soil varies from sandy to sandy clay loam. The nitrogen content is low in all samples with average value of 0.04%. The average lime content is 8%. All types of crops can be grown on these soils, but there is scarcity of water which limits the growth of many crops.
