Filipino culture is rich with legends, myths, and folklores. And not only few of our fellow kababayans have their own experiences regarding the ghosts, elementals, and amulets, but of course, their experiences also include the ‘aswangs’.
An Aswang, in Filipino folklore, is a vampire-like mythical creature, and is believed to be known since the 16th century Philippines. The aswang myth is popular among some provinces in the Visayan regions such as Capiz, Iloilo, Negros, Bohol, Masbate, Aklan, Antique, and Siquijor. Other names for the aswang include tiktik, wakwak, and soksok. (wiki)
One of the best classic movies which depicted by detail about the aswang in a certain barrio, if you remember it still, was the Shake, Rattle, and Roll 2 casted by Manilyn Reynes, Ana Roces, and others. It was said that the movie was the portrayal of Duenas in Capiz wherein every year, they, the community of aswangs, were inviting guests from other places for their town fiesta but eventually they would eat them. But others say these were not true.

Still today, a lot of the people are skeptical about it, for saying that today’s age is so much advanced with regard to science and technology and those creatures are not anymore existing nor really existed.
But I myself have some of my friends who do actually have the first-hand experience about aswangs like the mananaggals, tiktik and others. They said that these aswangs do really exist in their own places, living with common people, and doing daily chores like the ordinary non-aswang people.
In reading of so many aswang related stories in the forums, I came across with this radio interview of Anthony Vivero, a healer and investigative reporter of abs-cbn of that time. The radio interview was conducted in 2007 by Rey Sibayan, and Anthony Vivero discussed his ‘actual’ experiences of aswang in one of the places in Visayas. I wont give details of it so you can just listen to their conversation.
After I heard this interview, I tried to call the telephone number of Anthony Vivero mentioned in the audio recording. A lady who was Vivero’s secretary answered my call. That time she said that Anthony Vivero was doing a healing session. I asked about the tape recording but she said that the tape was with the abs cbn now.
Now that you heard his actual ENCOUNTER with the aswangs, you have your own decision and understanding if you would believe that aswangs do real exist or not.
Feel free to comment and share your story if you have some regarding your own experiences with the so-called aswang.
