Autocrossing in CNY!

Those of you that know me know I am pretty much obsessed with cars. I just love everything about them; driving, working on, or even just looking at them.

So, with the purchase of my reasonable dream car (a 2001 Audi S4 6 spd), I started attending local CNY SCCA autocross events, and I think it is safe to say I am hooked!

Short of going to a real racetrack like Watkins Glen or Poconos motor speedway, autocross is the most fun you can legally have with your car. The basic idea is simple, you show up with anything you like, just about any kind of car can participate in a true "run what you brung" kind of sense, and you get to lap a course with fellow enthusiasts.

Courses range from road cones set up in large parking lots to courses laid out on airfields to small go-kart tracks. Cars that show up range from blown corvettes down to stock miatas (shockingly fast), with everything from shifter carts to lotus seven replicas in between.

Cars are arraigned in different classes based on both their type and level of performance, as well as the modifications they may have and their driver's skill level. And don;t think for a second that whoever shows up in the most expensive or powerful car will win. Auto X takes a lot of skill!

You are timed at each lap and at the end of the day you can see how your car compares with others in its class.

I can't wait for the next event in my area, and all I need now is a new set of tires!

....and maybe some coilovers, and sway bars, and a new set of pads and rotors.... and new engine and transmission mounts and... bigger turbos... and ...
