I am a 31 year old (I mean young) musician. I grew up on a family of musicians. My father was a drummer before he quit and was force to find work to support me and my mom. He was only 19 when I was born. My mom was a pianist with formal music training during her college years.
A cousin of my grandpa (Father side) is a jazz guitarist who has gigs on 5 star hotels in Cebu. His son is a guitarist for an indie band in Cebu. All of my aunts on the father side knows how to play guitar. My brother plays the keyboard.
When I was a kid, I was exposed to the music of the Carpenters and the Beatles. My Uncles exposed me to the music of Asin, Sampaguita, Juan Dela Cruz band, Hotdog, VST and many other OPM acts of the 70's. On my mother's side, an Uncle is a close jamming buddy of Rey Valera. Another Uncle is a former band mate of Clem Castro of the Orange and Lemons fame. My mom's clan is from Bulacan while my dad's hails from Cebu.
Every family get together involves impromptu jamming. We never make the videoke machine go silent if there is one. We just never run out of songs to sing. I started playing the guitar at age 15 under the mentorship of a former musiclaban champion and guitarist of Rated R. But even before that I was already in the band scene as a vocalist at age 13. I had also a short stint in the choir of our barangay.
From 18 to 26 years old( I said I'm not old darn it) I was in different bands while at the same time moonlights as an acoustic entertainer in private parties. At 26, I started playing for the music ministry. It was also that year that the band I was in represented Misamis Oriental in band fest competition. From 15 years old up to present I am writing my own songs which I had played with my band "Cult Films" and have had 3 indie albums before we were forced to break up due to personal and financial problems. I am the only bachelor member left in the band.
My band has recently got back together and intend to return to the local indie music scene. We are now working on a rerecording of our 1st album. So just sit back because I may post those tracks. Wait? I'm rhyming again.
