Indian scientists working at the government-run International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in New Delhi claim to have found out an herbal formulation made from a plant, which is able to kill the dengue virus in mice in less than a week. The plant is locally called 'laghu patta' or abuta but its biological name is Cissampelos pareira. The scientists claim that this ayurvedic drug from the Indian plant blocks the growth of all four virus types when given to mice and in tissue culture tests and it is safe to use. The drug still has to go through human clinical trials. But if their claim turns true, solution to the dengue menace would be a reality in the next two years or so.
