Baz Luhrmann Injured On Set Of The Great Gatsby

The cast and crew of the upcoming Great Gatsby adaptation were given early leave from filming this week, but not for a good reason. Reports state that director Baz Luhrmann was injured on set, which resulted in the film shutting down early for the holidays. Deadline shared the news, stating that Australian news reports say Luhrmann hit his head on a camera crane. According to co-producer Anton Monsted, they were on a cramped set when it happened, “He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor.” According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Luhrmann received three stitches to the wound. Hopefully that's the extent of the injury and he'll be okay. In the meantime, the producers decided to stop filming for the holidays a day ahead of schedule as a result, and production is set to resume next year for some additional shots. In related (and more positive) news, from what Monsted told the Sydney Morning Herald, filming has gone "extremely well" for the movie. From the sound of it, the weather, rain in particular, has been an issue at a number of locations down under, but it sounds like they'll make up for some of the lost time in the new year. The upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel is set to hit theaters next Christmas. Carey Mulligan will play Daisy, Tobey Maguire is on board to play Nick Carraway, and Leonardo DiCaprio will play Jay Gatsby.
