BCL took out the procession to mark its founding anniversary on Saturday.
The programme disrupted traffic at Shahbagh, Paltan, Gulistan, Elephant Road since noon.
The march started from Dhaka University and it culminated at Gulistan office meandering through Shahbagh and Kakrail.
Police, however, were not seen taking initiatives to clear the streets for traffic.
Traffic police’s Ramna zone Assistant Commissioner Hafiz Al Faruk said, “We did not arrange any diversion for the rally. We tried to control the traffic.”
Before the rally started, leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League’s student front gathered at Dhaka University coming in processions.
Some of them were seen dancing to the tune of Hindi music while crossing Kakrail around 1:30pm.
One Abida Sultana, who got stuck at Kakrail for the rally, said, “Any student organisation can celebrate its founding anniversary but for that people should not suffer.”
Another rickshaw passenger Saiful Islam said, “The students should be in their classes. Why do they occupy the streets?”
The BCL leaders and activists took part in the process attired in colourful t-shirts and sarees. The rally also included horse carriages.
