What is a Paradigm Shift

History teaches us that human progress comes in quantifiable steps called paradigms.

A paradigm is a core belief system that is used to interpret the information we encounter in the world around us. For instance, for hundreds of years humanity believed that the Earth was at the center of the universe and the sun revolved around it. The idea of a “solar system” did not even exist. They believed the Earth was at the center of the observable universe (for them hand-crafted telescopes.)

This was their paradigm for understanding what they saw in the world around them, as they watched the rising and the setting of the sun.

A paradigm-shift, then, is when new information, technology, or understanding causes a sudden and dramatic transformation in the way we see and interpret the world around us.

Paradigm-Shifts are permanent openings in human cognitive capabilities that create new possibilities and change history. The emergence of scientific rationalism is an example of a paradigm.

Once human beings make a realization, that’s it. It’s too late to go back. There’s a very easy and clever example of this, one that art teachers everywhere love to demonstrate:

When you’re first introduced to this puzzle, your brain will choose one of two possible interpretations. On one hand, some people will see a young woman, a beautiful one at that. On the other, a much older woman, one who has already been on plenty of dates.

If you can’t see both of the women in this drawing, congratulations! You’re sitting in the driver’s seat and are about to experience your own mini-paradigm shift. Go back to the image and really sit there and look at it.. if you need a hint: the ear of the younger woman is the eye of the older woman.

It might take a moment, but once it hits you, it's impossible not to see it.

Congratulations, you’ve now created a paradigm-shift in your own microcosm.

What all paradigm-shifts have in common is that they emerged in a sequential unfolding and faded as further progress revealed something entirely new about the world. One of the best known theories that describes the behavior is known as spiral dynamics.

Spiral dynamics shows us that paradigms grow in a way that becomes broader and more inclusive. Paradigms begin self-centered, work their way out to community centered, and then eventually continue to expand to world-centric viewpoints.

Bitcoin represents the transition from an entho-centric to a world-centric economic paradigm.

Digital Currency is a revolutionary technology that will transform how business is conducted and how we view ourselves as inhabitants of the Earth. Digital currency represents the upgrading of the mold in how we view ourselves and others - and inspires global unity and compassion. With this in mind, we can confidently say that bitcoin and digital currency is here to stay, and will only become more prominent and wide-spread. It is inevitable because bitcoin represents the fact that human race has reached a new era of development, and that a paradigm-shift is available and awaiting the global culture in a variety of deep-running industries and areas of human organization.

The discover of bitcoin may be compared to the advent of the Industrial Era, or the discover of the silicon microchip.

Digital currency is only beginning to change the face of the world. Before we will even have time to realized what happened, it will have completely eclipsed all older models of economic exchange.

Crypto-currency is 100%, without a doubt the future of economics. Yet for now we must ask, what will the transition look like?

That is another question entirely.
