After foraying into the Hybrid car market in the year 2012 with the Active HybridX6 and continuing the trend with the X7, BMW took the next step in its lineup of high-end Hybrid cars by unveiling the Active Hybrid 5-series for 2012. In contrast to the previous models, the new Hybrid 5-series will be able to propel the car with an electric motor alone and comes with an improved fuel economy and lower emissions without comprising on either performance or driving dynamics. Even though the EPA is yet to release fuel economy ratings officially, BMW expects the 5-series to exceed the fuel economy rating of its predecessors by 12 to 13 percent. In actual figures this would mean a city equivalent of 24 mpgs and a highway equivalent of 35 mpgs. Available with a multitude of luxury features, the base model of the 2012 Active Hybrid 5-series is price at $60,950.
