Dhaka:  BNP on Saturday formed a high-powered seven-member committee to investigate the oil tanker capsize in the Shela River of the Sundarbans.

Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, a vice-chairman of the party, will head the team formed as per the directives of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The committee will submit its report to party Chairperson Khaleda Zia by December 25, said a source in Khaleda’s Gulshan office.

The committee members are : Former minister Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed BNP lawmaker Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna City Corporation Mayor Moniruzzaman Moni, environmental activist Sheikh Faridul Islam and Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of Bangladesh Environmental Journalists Forum.
