In the mood to get into the Halloween spirit? Don’t know where to start? Well, I suggest reading a scary book or creepy novel to get you into the right mood. Horror books are great if you’re trying to scare yourself. The books featured below are all about the unspeakable; about murders, death, spirits and the supernatural. Read mysteries or stories about monsters in order to really enjoy the month of October. Check out some of my recommendations below. All of these can be found on Shop.com right now! Happy reading!

The Shining by Stephen King- If you really want to get into the Halloween mood, then read a classic like Stephen King’s The Shining. Not only will you have to sleep with a night-light on, but you’ll also get some good literature in!

The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston- The Witch’s Daughter is about Bess, an immortal woman living in 2007. She shares her fascinating life story with a young friend, leaving readers in awe of this intricate tale. It’s a novel about adventure, escape and strength. It’s a much more lighthearted novel than the others on this list yet, it’s definitively a good pre-Halloween read.

The Works of Edgar Allan Poe- To really get that Halloween spirit read the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe. Get your friends together and read it out loud with some creepy theme music and candles lit. It’ll make for a unique gathering.

The Invention of Murder by Judith Flanders- The Invention Of Murder: How The Victorians Reveled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime, explores murder in the Victorian era. From the sad tale of the Marr’s family to the exploited murders of Jack The Ripper, it takes a historical look at murder in the time of corsets and characters like Sherlock Holmes.

John Dies at The End by David Wong- John Dies at The End takes a satirical approach to the horror genre. It has a funny voice, but with enough horror and terrifying antics to stay with you for long after you’re done reading it. I’d read it for that reason alone.
