Today, October 23rd, is Boston Cream Pie Day.

Boston cream pies are cakes rather than being actual pies.

The cake was created in 19th century Boston and is the official dessert of Massachusetts.

The Boston cream pie consists of two layers of sponge cake which are filled with either crème pâtissière (a type of custard) or vanilla flavoured custard, which is then topped with a chocolate glaze and occasionally a cherry or powdered sugar.
