Millions of people in India suffer from diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid, jaundice and gastroenteritis every year. So, contaminated water still poses a massive health risk to India and this has triggered a boom in the country's packaged water industry. The industry is reported have achieved a business of nearly Rs1,500 crore every year. But unfortunately, the requirement of the people is not fulfilled. It is alleged that many companies are selling packaged water without proper certification, as tests revealed a deadly cocktail of chemicals and bacteria in samples. It is hoped that India's food safety regulator FSSAI should take necessary action to ensure safe drinking water to the people who are spending money for it.
